I was deeply disappointed by this book.
I thought Dave Eggers was the darling of the literary world (he's been nominated for both the Pulitzer and the National Booker award, after all), so I expected The Circle to be a well-written but dull story of how a universally-adopted modern convenience is actually evil. I struggled with liking this book, as much as I wanted to. His last book, A Hologram for the King, is a really moving story with a lot in common with Death of a Salesman. This felt, early on, like a new take on 1984, but it didn’t have the same humanity as 1984 or Hologram. Dave Eggers, full disclosure, is a writer that I really like and may be the only writer whose books I buy when they come out. In short, I really wanted to like this book a lot.

Smart and discerning people love to hate Dave Eggers. I thought the Circle had a pretty slow start, but I couldn't stop reading it even though it was totally predictable. Thanks to Eggers for writing the first book that held my attention long enough for me to complete since I became a working mom 4 months ago!
