I really enjoyed this book about the women of Oak Ridge, TN, a town created to participate in the Manhattan Project. The book is mostly vignettes about the women, interspersed with the story of the discovery of fission and scientific progress on harnessing atomic energy. The author did a good job of highlighting a diverse group of women and I enjoyed this slice of previously unknown to me history.

A book about women and nuclear history? As someone who formerly worked in nuclear nonproliferation, this book had my name written on it and I loved it. The book offered glimpses into the women of Oak Ridge and was told in a slightly choppy style, mirroring the secrecy and compartmentalization that occurred at the facility. Definitely a worthy read for anyone interested in nuclear history.

As far as history, the book is interesting. I learned a few things. Unfortunately, it felt as though the book was written on a YA level or below. The flow of the narrative also seemed a bit bumpy and jarring. It became a little tedious to read.
