To be honest, I can't write a good review right now because I just finished the book, savored it a bit... and am still crying. I can't remember the last time I've cried this much at a book, but all I know is that it doesn't happen very often. (Misty, maybe. Eyes filled with tears, sure. But rolling tears and hiccups and residual sniffles are rare.)

Yes, the storyline is heart-wrenching and you know that going in. (It's about teenagers with cancer. How could it not be?) But I love John Green's wri

Ok, so this book is poignant, funny, beautiful, and SAD. I mean, SAD. Which should be obvious - its about kids with cancer. And about them falling in love. Its just a simple, beautifully-written love story.
However, I think I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't have a younger brother overcoming leukemia -- it was seriously HARD to read this book for me, and I kind of just wanted it to be over so I didn't have to think about cancer anymore.
But I guess that's a testament to the author - its ve

I'm caught between four and five stars ... On the one hand there are a lot of things I loved about it, especially Hazel and Isaac. I could empathize with them and Augustus, and their observations about life and death.

On the other hand, I thought some elements of the Van Houten plot line were a little unbelievable (though I did love that he didn't live up to their expectations). There are a couple of moments that I think delve a little too deeply into melodrama -- the problem may have been that

I'm absolutely gutted, tears pouring down my face, a little but angry, but still grateful for the opportunity to experience the fictional, yet very real lives of Augustus and Hazel. I gave never in my life read a more authentic, honest, heart-breaking, yet heart warning piece if fiction. John Green doesn't trying too hard to make you feel anything, he just tells it like it is and as a result you feel EVERYTHING. In a matter of five pages I cried, I swore and I laughed heartily out loud. Well spo ...more

It's funny that so many people don't think of this as a YA book, because it is very firmly in the YA genre. (Wordy teens, tragic circumstances). It reminds me of ME Kerr books I used to read as a kid. That said, I like YA books, and this is a good one. I'm always impressed when a writer effectively writes a first person narrator of the opposite gender, and Green captures Hazel perfectly. Also, I cried. ...more

What a beautiful, sad, thought provoking book. The love story was sweet and felt real. I always mark a good book by how long it stays with me after I finish reading it. This story will stay with me for a very long time.
