finished in audio 6/7/12
This book was highly talked about online (mostly on Twitter and LJ) by friends and it took me a while to actually get the book from the library. (I put it on hold in both text and audio formats and they both came at the same time. I ended up listening to the audio version because I am able to listen at work and has less time to devote to sitting down and actually reading things.) It's only 6 discs long, so I was able to get through more than half of it in the first day an ...more

Ok, I finally listened to my students and read this - in less than 24 hours - and they're right. It's good. Green's one-liners are classic, even if his teenagers are always unbelievably-precocious, and I love him for attempting to deal with very weighty topics in YA fiction that does not read like a soap opera as so much other YA fiction attempting to deal with these issues does. As with Looking for Alaska, I laughed out loud many times. However, I think I may have liked Looking for Alaska bette

It's always tough going into one of these books when you know it's going to hurt. There just aren't many cheery books about kids with cancer. But this book isn't about cancer as much as life and about the kid's and I liked them, and I liked reading their stories.

Augustus Waters, while not the protagonist, is one of those characters that will stay with me for a long time. I think that's one of John Green's greatest strengths as an author, the ability to create characters that feel totally real.

I just love this book. It's a new perspective on children fighting cancer. There is sarcasm, romance, and stark realism.

So much more intense than I expected. Read it if you haven't.
