What Members Thought
I’ll never quite understand what makes a book be classified as Young Adult (or “YA”). Like Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” trilogy, I’m sort of shocked that “The Book Thief” is considered YA. Perhaps the marketing folks at publishing houses think that if the protagonist of a novel is a child or teen, it naturally fits best in the YA category. In the case of the beautiful, haunting “Book Thief,” I’m afraid that a whole segment of readers will miss this book because it won’t be easy to find

This is such a beautiful story and so elegantly written and crafted. It'll come as no surprise that the book doesn't end on a high-note, so don't read the last part in a public space or when you have four more hours to get through at work. But seriously - this is a phenomenal book and if it's not currently being taught in every high school across the country - it should be.
