Winters takes the standard detective story but raises the stakes dramatically.....an asteroid is headed toward Earth and humanity only has a few months left. This excellent conceit allows Winters a lot of creativity, even within its central mystery with many red herrings.

This is a fun combination of murder mystery and post-apocalyptic fiction (though it's technically an impending apocalypse). A brand-new detective in NH is convinced the latest call he went on was a murder, not one of the many suicides police are dealing with in this world, and sets out to solve the case. I feel like the mystery wasn't plotted out in a particularly complex way, but I found this to be a neat combination of genres, and a fun read.
