I enjoyed finishing this book while I am on my vacation in New Orleans. I have walked on some of the streets referenced in the book. Interesting story.

One of my favorite main characters in a long time. Although while I was reading there were parts I didn't love - (love triangle, final shocking event, etc.) - I thought overall it was absolutely great and I was sad when it ended. ...more

I think this book paled in comparison to Sepetys' first book (Between Shades of Gray), which was excellent. And while I came to care about and enjoy time with Josie Moraine, the seedy underside of New Orleans was a setting both more familiar and more depressing than that of Lithuania. Despite this, I enjoyed getting to know Josie and seeing her go beyond the constraints her life had set for her.

An enjoyable - if not extraordinary - young adult historical fiction novel.

I love the unusual plot and background (lots of puzzle and mysteries too), and especially the setting of New Orleans (Josie even lives and works in a bookstore!!). But the love triangle is not really my cup of tea.. especially because the chosen guy is not my ...more
