I am bookwrecked.
This book is set in my hometown, El Paso, however that is not the only reason I enjoyed it. Ari is a teenage boy who pushes many people away. His brother is in prison and his parents never talk about him. He meets Dante, a sweet kid who loves his parents. This is shocking to Ari, as he doesn’t share his feelings for others and finds it odd that a fellow teenager would so readily admit to loving his parents. A really great capture of male adolescence (for a YA audience, I think) and friendship in a not commonly depicted way. I was more impressed with the second half than the first, which I think had to do with a (overly?) long development of the characters, but it paid off!
