I had mixed feeling about this book. I love the setting- a Catholic Dorm School for boys in Ireland. And some of the characters are also fun- most of them are 14 years old boys- the nerds, the so called womanizer, the bullies, etc. The mystery surrounding Skippy's life - including why he dies- is also intriguing. But the plot - like most British lits - is quite slow and dragging. And also, the subplot about the lives of the teachers (and most adults in this book) is pretty lame. So... 3 stars, i

I couldn't stand this book but felt I had to make it through the trainwreck to the end. I had heard it was hilarious and expected a light-hearted, humorous read, but it is just so mean. There is not one character I like (and I can usually feel a little empathy for anyone), the banter is cruel and everyone just seems sociopathic. Even skimming the book, which I quickly resorted to because I couldn't stand to be in the brains or conversations of the characters, is painful. Not a fan.
