This book is a great sci-fi retelling of Cinderella, where Cinder is not only the downtrodden step-daughter, but part cyborg as well. D not read this book looking for a happily ever after - it is a roller coaster ride that doesn't always go where you are expecting. The plot itself was excellent, harkening back to the original fairy tale just enough that you remembered the inspiration, but not so much that it doesn't stand on its own. Overall, I thought this book was definitely an enjoyable read.

An interesting young adult sci-fi fairy tale based loosely on the story of Cinderella. Meyer's foreshadowing could use more subtlety but, it was over all an enjoyable read. I thought the cyborg prejudice and legal discrimination a little difficult to believe. Why would having significant prosthetic relegate people to the status of property? (view spoiler)

It's a really clever take on the Cinderella story. The narrative and the details are solid and well thought-out, but I'm taking away a point for the ending. It's totally possible to build a trilogy or series with a broad narrative arc and still have SOME closure at the end of each individual book. (see J.K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, Jonathan Stroud, etc) This book ends abruptly with no resolution. I feel like it's serious cop-out when authors do that. Either they don't know how the book actually en

Cinder is a retelling of Cinderella set in a future dystopian backdrop. What particularly make it stand out is that the Cinder of this story is not a young girl, but a cyborg in a world that doesn’t see cyborgs as equal to humans. I really enjoyed the story, and it sucked me in from the start.
The nice thing about this retelling is it hits all the beats of the original without being a point-by-point copy. The inspiration is obvious — there’s a charming prince, and an evil stepmother, and even a p ...more

Wow! Probably the first book I've stayed up late to read (in one sitting) in a couple years!
A refreshing take on the Cinderella story - with a couple nods to Sleeping Beauty and Snow White tossed in for luck - that hits all the right notes while being completely new and different. Well done! ...more

Cyborg Cinderella? I'm in. The Cinderella metaphor wasn't taken to extemes, which might have limited the book. While it is frustrating to read chapters and chapters of characters who refuse to put together the pieces of a puzzle and come up with a conclusion...I'm willing to overlook this. I had a bigger problem with the idea of a new race/species from the Moon; I just couldn't get behind the science of that. But still....Cinder was a plucky, interesting character and I will definitely read the
