This was a fun book about a former assassin, enslaved in a mine then given a chance to win her freedom through grueling trials with other badass dudes. I'd like to read the backstory novellas, the tales from when she was actually an assassin. In this book, however, she's training to be the next American Gladiator or something, avoiding acknowledgement of a love triangle, sneaking around he glass palace, and thinking about how she COULD kill that guy if she wanted to. The basic premise of this first book in the Throne of Glass series is that Celaena, a young but well-trained assassin, has been taken from her slave prison and chosen to be a competitor in the King's competition. Winner gets their freedom.... eventually. After they spend 4 years working as the King's personal assassin. Some of the competitors are going to be pretty hard for Celaena to beat, but luckily there's also a mysterious beast roaming the castle, killing them off.
