This book is both wonderful and heart breaking. There is a beautiful balance between the dry humor and real world horrors. Moriarty is a master at character development and I really loved and felt empathy for so many of the characters. It's funny... in a way it reminded me of one of my favorite books as a teenager, Ready, Okay! by Adam Cadre.

Thanks to the folks at Cannonball Reads, who raved about this book. After reading two rather serious pieces of nonfiction (death, death, and more death), this novel set in Australia was just the light but compelling read that I needed. Not that there isn’t some serious and grim stuff at the center of Big Little Lies, but there’s also a great deal of humor and heart.

Well written women's fiction that touches on hot button issues including domestic abuse, remarriage, blended families, and mommy wars. Entertaining and fast paced. I listened to the audio version and the narrator's authentic Australian accent added to the appeal.

I wanted to give this book a bad review. I hated it at first. The characters were whiney and the story line felt trivial. But as I kept reading, I realized just how true to life it is. It brings up interesting points about the role of social media in our lives, helicopter parenting, marriage crises, and domestic violence. It would be such an interesting book to tackle with a book club. When I finished it, I had to admit I actually enjoyed most of it...and it left me really thinking about the dra

4.5. I loved this and really didn't expect to. The other one of hers that I've read, The Husband's Secret, was just fine, but this was way better. Listening to the Australian accents on the audiobook definitely helped. Cannot wait for the HBO series!
