My first Ian McEwan book and I will definitely be checking out more. This drew me in and I couldn't stop thinking about it; plus, its depiction of the legal world and how legal decisions are made and written appears accurate (at least in my experience). I found myself not really liking Fiona, especially as the book approached the end (without giving a spoiler alert). She seemed so detached from me, the reader, and removed from her emotions. Short, but not sweet. I enjoyed this one, as much as one can enjoy a story like this. I found myself wanting to race to the end, but couldn't because I was listening to it. (Thank goodness as I didn't wan to skim a word!) The reader was great! ...more
