I've been meaning to read this for a long time, and I'm glad I finally got around to it!
Persepolis is the story of a piece of Marjane Satrapi's childhood, beginning during the Islamic Revolution in Iran when she was 6 and ending at age 14, when her parents send her away. Rereading this for the community book club tomorrow. I had forgotten Satrapi's sense of humor. I really look forward to our discussion and hope lots of people come.

This was a great graphic novel about growing up in revolutionary Iran. Marjane learns to fit in, stand out, and stand up in a changing and repressive society. I'm using ideas from other teachers to make this into a unit for my middle schoolers, who can't find Iran on a map but know for sure that Iranians are all terrorists. Hoping to change that.
