I wanted to like this book so much more. But I guess I should have done my research into Mindy Kaling before picking this up, because had I known anything about her other than that she's a comedian, I would have realized I was going to dislike it. She spends a lot of time just telling people they should buy more expensive clothes, or how she loves expensive clothes - which means I didn't even laugh. It was just so incredibly shallow, even for someone who is not expected to write a book that's ac ...more

As adorable as I thought it would be. I love this woman. Her pieces on the Irish Exit (although we call it the Irish Goodbye!), men putting on their shoes, Amy Poehler, and her story of how she got where she is were pretty great. Reminded me a lot of the pace and flow of Tina Fey's book (I know, isn't that just the inevitable comparison? -- but there were times when I was listening when it was just eerily similar), but perhaps I liked it better because it was more about someone in my place in li ...more

Funny, sure. But somehow I went from loving Mindy and wishing we were besties to being a bit over the over-the-top. Part of it is that the structure of the book supported continued vapidity (is that a thing?). Might have liked it better in hardback, where I could really see the photos. But for me, it was just meh.

Funny and charming, just as I'd hoped. I like her, quite a lot. I did get the impression that Mindy Lahiri an example of the type of woman she does not like, based some of these essays, which is interesting. ...more

Autobiography by Mindy Kaling. Unfortunately, in the world she lives in, size 8 is fat.

Mindy Kaling talks about stuff. Sometimes it makes me laugh.

Not really much of a book here, but it's enjoyable enough to listen to in my car. Mindy is the kind of person that anyone would want to be friends with.

I could have done without the last 10% or so, the bit about her funeral and eulogy. It just wasn't interesting.
