This was a really great read, very fast (as YA novels tend to be for many adult readers) but very engaging. Alexie tells us the story of Arnold Spirit, who decides to go off the rez for high school. A great story, simultaneously full of fun (the main characters are 15 year old boys after all) and pain, bu ...more

Absolutely perfect. I recommend listening to the audio book read by Sherman Alexie because storytelling works best orally, and he narrates his own experiences so beautifully. The teenage boy perspective is hilarious and painfully awkward and goofy all at once. And he mentions Ponderosa pine trees, which made me super homesick. The end.

I'm a HUGE fan. I LOVE this book. There aren't that many books where I can honestly say I laughed out loud, but this is one of those. At the same time, it is heartwarming and has a unique depth. ...more

I meant to read only two or three pages of this and then go to bed, but I stayed up until 4am to read the whole thing. Definitely in my top 5 of 2014.

A great insight into a little spoken about and oft forgotten part of Americana. I think anyone would have a lot to learn from this story.
