Ah the beauty of being an english major and taking a western literature course. I read a great number of absolutely boring things in that class, and pretended to read (without even cracking the book) a few others. Madame Bovary was one I started with no intention of getting very far at all before giving up.

Wow. En la primera parte estuve a punto de abandonar este libro, me alegro de no haberlo hecho.

La novela de Flaubert está dividida en tres partes. La primera me parece insufrible. No me enganchaba con los personajes, sentía tediosas las descripciones, y muchas innecesarias. En la segunda parte sentí algo parecido pero con un poco más de acción. La tercera es definitivamente una joya de la literatura.

I'm conflicted between giving this book a 2 or a 3. I liked a lot of the book but some parts of it were "just okay". The main character was so infuriating in parts of the story that I wanted to reach in and slap her silly!! She had a daughter to whom she paid scant attention; her wants and desires came first before anyone else - did not care about her much and frankly at some points I had to say she deserved what she got.
