I picked up this book because I read that the author lives and writes in my hometown. Calling Me Home is sort of a hybrid: part love story, part historical fiction, part story of the bonds of female friendship. There are really quite a few layers to it, and I can see why it would be a good pick for book clubs.

Exquisitely written and crafted story about life relationships, choices, and social consequences both today and southern USA in the late thirties. I loved the characters in this story and the tears are still flowing after finishing it. Why had I not heard of this book until now? I am so glad I read this for
book club.
