Mmmmm...where should I begin?

Well, for starters, this book will not be going onto my 'Best Books Ever'list.

I loved the beginning and spent many hours enjoying virtual tours of English cathedrals.
However, somewhere after that I began to find the violence sickening and could not read some passages.
I grew very attached to particular characters, unfortunately, one or two of my favourites seemed to vanish and were not mentioned in the book again - this was disappointing. Maybe it would have required ...more

Wow, I finally finished this one! I listened to it as an audiobook and it took me months! This was a very chunky historical fiction. Loved the detail and characters. It had sort of "soap opera" feel with all of the sub-plots. This book had it all: love, murder, rape, gruesome battles, witchery, lust, very descriptive architecture, revenge (yes, lots of revenge!)......
For as long as the book was, I do feel though that the ending came about so quickly. I found myself questioning who the characters ...more

i got conned into reading this book by all the 5 star reviews. It was a terribly written book with characters as thin as paper. I kept reading it thinking, its going to get better, it will - but it never did. The book just went on and on and on, and on... and the plot was just as another reviewer here has commented - along the lines of, lets build a church, here we are building, and we're building, oh oh evil lurks and tries to prevent building, but our good Father saves the day, oh look the vil ...more
