This was a very detailed book about moss and botany....This should make me run like the wind, but I enjoyed it. I always like when a book spans a huge time frame and does it well. This book does that. I really enjoyed getting to know Alma. Some of the theories in the book I disagree with her and more agree with her counterparts.

Knowing a bit about the author after reading Eat, Pray, Love I find it fascinating that she did all of this research to write this book. That in itself is amazing. This ...more

I took my time with this novel but in doing so, was able to really savor the poetic language and lingering magic that Gilbert had so deliberately crafted. I hope that if you do read it, you read its entirety because like any novel, you really can't judge the content without its full conveyance. Alma was a tragic and convincing heroine. She was unlike anyone else but identical to everyone else because she too sought meaning and significance in her life, but ultimately faded into obscurity. The sp ...more
