What Members Thought

I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Stephenie Meyer really is an underrated talent. With all of the angst and criticism thrown her way because of the Twilight Series, I thought that The Host would be more of the same. In a way, there were similarities, but whereas the Twilight series left me wanting for more of the Cullens, The Host gives ample background into the mysterious way of the Souls.

This book is way too long! I was told it took a while to get into, but once you did you were hooked. That is sort of true. The first 100 pages were confusing and difficult. Then it does hook you and I found myself reading intently for the next 200 pages or so, but by page 420 (yes 420!) I was bored again and found myself skimming the remaining 150 pages just to get to the end. This was possible without loosing too much of the story line. Dangit - I really wanted to give this a five star rating - I devoured the book in about a week - all 700 pages of it and - up until the stupid epilogue I was with Stephanie Meyer the whole way. I don't want to give up why the ending pulled a star away from my rating but its the same dang reason I hated the ending to the Harry Potter series. Maybe I'm just becoming cynical in my old age. On to the next one.

I had tried to read this book before but couldn't get into it, but this time I couldn't understand how I didn't get into it the first time! I really enjoyed it and couldn't stop reading - I was awake at 3am this morning and read through until I finished at 8am!
