I loved this. There's a lot going on ... three different storylines, in three different times, across two different countries. But I loved each storyline, and am glad that the author took the chance on using multiple POVs in storylines that jump back and forth. When done wrong, it can be a mess; but it worked in this book, and it really added to the feeling of being told a fairy tale in the old way.

Oh this book..
This is one of the most stunningly beautiful and magical story I have ever read.
When I found out this was a story about the origins of Rapunzel, I knew wanted to read this book and give it a try.
This book completely surpassed my expectations. Bitter Greens captures you and tangles you into this beautifully woven story. I fell in love with the story and the characters.
If you love fantasy or retelling or you just love a wonderfully written story pick this book up and enjoy. ^^

A sweet slow read . I liked that it was based on a true story about Charlotte-Rose de Caumont de la Force

I feel tricked.
I picked up this book having been told it was a re-telling of Rapunzel. Yes there is a re-telling of Rapunzel within its pages, however the majority of this tale is set in 17th Century Versailles. A story of Charlotte-Rose at the French courts of the Sun-King.
I feel if I had gone in with this expectation I probably would have enjoyed the book a lot more, as I was waiting for the fairy tale chapters for a lot of it. Charlotte-Rose was the French author of one surviving version of ...more

Surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did. Sometimes it got to too much like a "romance" novel...but such an interesting premise.
