While I expected that Philip's deformity would play a bigger role in the story than it did, it didn't detract from the story. The love affair that the synopsis mentions does come into play multiple times during the book, and has a profound affect on him, but I didn't find it to be the central part of the story. To me, his search to be someone worthwhile, to make a place for himself and to just be happy (whether that was in a relationship or not) was what the story was about for me. The relations ...more
