If someone sees you as being better than themselves, they will want to copy the thing that seems to make you superior. For Pecola, it was the little white girl's blue eyes. Was it the miracle that Soaphead Church wrought or the rape by her father that made her crazy? Was this new world of hers really that bad? Not only did I have to read this novel for my American Literature course a couple of years back, but I also chose it as the book I would write my term paper on. I regret neither of these things for a moment.
