Started with the audiobook, ended with the actual book and then watched the mini-series.
I am not a huge Jane Austen fan, so I am not invested in the characters and I didn't expect it to read like a Jane Austen novel. Thank goodness, as it does not. There was a lot of talking, explaining and not a lot of action.

Though I enjoyed the story, I feel that PD James hasn't quite captured the essence of Jane Austen. The story took a long time to get to answers that was satisfying to the plot. It was nice to read about Elizabeth and Darcy , but I wish there had been more focus on them and how they were affected by the trauma, trial and subsequent decision at the end of the novel.

The author did it! P.D. James made so many changes to the characters, story-telling style, mood and presentation of Jane Austen's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, that the "likeness" to the original seems to me mostly a marketing ploy to attract people who may have never read Austen, only knowing of her books through film or TV versions which also may take many liberties with what these are "based" on.

As someone who watched six hours of PBS A Taste for Death last night, how can I resist this book I am on p. 59.

2 stars was quite generous for this book. As a fan of all things Pride & Prejudice, even modern sequels, I was intrigued to read a murder mystery sequel....for I am a fan of that genre as well. However, this particular marriage of the two failed...miserably! Sadly I have never read a PD James story and after this, not sure I want to.

I enjoyed the continuation of the characters of Jane Austen. As a mystery it missed the mark though. It was fun to imagine the lives of the characters as they played out.
