Although this book has high acclaim and many recognitions, I found it hard to read. It may be that the 7 generations of Buendía Family in the town of Macondo Columbia had family names that were used in each generation. José Arcadio, Aureliano and Ursula. Or maybe it's the fantasy that makes it difficult to digest. It was an accomplishment to finish it

This book is a good example of two common elements of Latin-American literature (at least in my experience): abundant mysticism and a rambling narrative style that goes everywhere and nowhere at the same time. While some of the adventures and experiences of the Buendia family are interesting, others are quite mundane, yet are meticulously related in all their mundanity. The story does eventually end, though it is a nebulous end at best. Not my favorite, but culturally enlightening at least!

A classic. I can't rate this highly enough.
