It was mostly well-written, action-packed, and I was pretty much unable to put it down. In fact, When I got done work this afternoon, I drove up to the bookstore to get the sequel because I enjoyed reading it that much. The problem is, just because I enjoyed a book doesn't necessarily mean it was good. Let's go through the reasons why I both love and and hate it.

Shelves: first-reads, demons, magick

I received this book free as part of the First Reads program. REALLY glad I won it. It was definitely worth my time, and I'm looking forward to the second novel in the series. My only complaint is that the print size is miniscule, so it was hard to read at times.

I was really looking forward to this book, so maybe I had set my expectations too high. In this book, we are introduced to 3 different characters. Separately, and at *length*. I felt like I was maybe just starting to get invested in the first when he switched to the second. And then to the third.

It ends up feeling like this book is just a series of background stories, but nothing much actually happens. The premise is pretty neat, so I will keep reading, but am not super excited about this serie ...more
