A slow but rather exquisite read by Elif Shafak.
I feel divided by the main character Ella, though there is an emptiness to her character i found her a hard character to like with the way she interacted with her family , in Someways rather controlling with her daughter Jeanette .
I liked the letter writing between Ella and Aziz and the friendship that developed in such short period of time before she meets him .
The book sections going back and forth from everyday to the 13th century worked well ...more

After visiting Konya, and the tomb of Mevlana and seeing this book on the shelves in Turkey,I was very excited to read this book. It was interesting to read the fictionalized insight into the relationship between Rumi(Mevlana) and his mentor, Shams. Especially how their friendship affected Rumi's family members, and the story between how they first came to be introduced. I marked this only two stars as I didn't enjoy as much the parallel story featuring Ella. The character of Ella just didn't fe
