Unbelievably sweet book. I didn't want this book to end and even thought about starting it again right after I had finished. I liked the storyline and that kind of magic all over it. So richly imagined, mysterious and incredibly original. This one won't appeal to everyone. You have to be willing to suspend disbelief and allow yourself to be swept up into the events of the story. It's not 100% fantasy because the story is about a regular middle-aged man going home for a funeral who reflects on an extraordinary event from his childhood. A very quick and interesting read. ...more

It was good but I just don't seem to really enjoy fantasy set in the contemporary real world. Apart from Harry Potter of course. ...more
