What a tome! I do think that if I'd read this 10 years ago, it would have been a five star read for me. The historical fiction aspect was wonderful - the author did an excellent job of portraying both the refined avenues of high society London as well as the grimiest gutters. The characters were also complex, fleshed-out beings who came alive on the page! I do think the book was longer than it needed to be - I wish the Mrs. Fox/Henry Rackham storyline had been cut, which would've reduced the pag

This was an interesting and mighty read at 800 pages. I liked the character Sugar immensely , but couldn't take to the selfish William. Sophie was a little repressed angel , who flourished in Sugar's care.

Liked it very much, though I didn't like how it seemed to peter off in the end. The narrator was a special surprise. Loved that voice.
