Really great book. The characters are extremely unlikeable but very interesting. The novel follows an early 30ish newspaper reporter, Camille Preaker from Chicago sent back to her home town in Missouri to cover the story of the murder of two young girls. She's not met with open arms by her mother Adora and much younger step sister Amma. As the story unfolds we learn more and more about these interesting but unlikeable characters. A disturbing, dark, twisted, who done it which layers on the ways of small towns: what people see or portray on the surface and the secrets and lies bubbling right below the surface that everyone knows about. Add in complicated mother/daughter relationships and how they impact behavior and I'm sold. This is the second Gillian Flynn book that made me gasp out loud, in this case it was where the teeth were found. ...more

Again, another Gillian Flynn book I preferred over Gone Girl. This one kept my attention from the start and made me want to complete it in a day. I just wish I had more free time to do that! Such a sad revelation by the end. Sick and oppressive.

Read for PopSugar challenge: a popular author's first book.

Everyone in this book is very messed up. I wish she'd made the teenage character 15 instead of 13, but I guess that makes it even creepier.

Week 15 of the 2015 Reading Challenge (Almost caught up!) - First book by a popular author. This was an odd choice for me since I hated Gone Girl (unlike most of the rest of the world). But this one wasn't too bad. Still weird, still mostly unsympathetic characters but had some redeeming qualities. ...more

THis is the kind of book that will haunt me.
It's disturbing and makes you wonder what's in the writer's head when she was writing it, where she got the ideas from.

Gillian Flynn's first book is as good as the second and the last.
Can't wait for her next book!

I am not sure the mystery of who the killer was that big a mystery but thought the history and ongoing story of Camille that made it worth reading. All the primary characters seemed to be interesting and their stories added to the book as well.
