This book is yet another example of the brilliant way J.K. Rowling infuses the darkness of the human condition with all the potential for redemption. The way she so seamlessly threads very adult like topics into these fantastical children's stories always amazes me. I really just adore her style. Shameless fangirling aside, I also love fairy tales, fables, retellings, etc. so this book was bound to be up my alley even without J.K. Rowling at the helm.
