Don't get why people praise this book so much.
Was it good? - Yes.
Was it great? - No.
It was frustrating to read Rachel's ups and downs and I didn't like Anna and Megan at all. And let me tell you, it's really difficult to enjoy a book if you don't like any of the characters. Also, I had this feeling from the very early stages of reading that I knew who the culprit was, and I was right.

Alrededor de estas tres mujeres, la trama del libro va tomando forma. Cada capítulo cuenta la historia de una de ellas tres, e irás conociendo poco a poco los pormenores de la vida de cada una, hasta que una de ellas desaparezca.

Se trata de un libro de tipo policial, cuya trama se va desvelando poco a poco. No es sólo un misterio el involucrado; Rachel, la protagonista, debe ir descubriendo muchas cosas acerca de sí misma además de involucrarse en el caso policial.

Crítica

Este es un libro entretenido, lleno de misterios, donde conocemos a tres mujeres de muy diferente carácter, con diferentes metas y cosas importantes en su vida.

La enfermedad de Rachel le aporta más interrogantes a la trama, pero a medida que se van esclareciendo poco a poco los misterios y vamos conociendo los distintos pormenores, queda muy a la vista quién es el culpable.

A lectores acostumbrados a novelas policiales, alrededor de los ¾, o incluso a la mitad del libro, descubrirán al responsable del misterio. Otros lectores, que no estén acostumbrados, de todos modos lo podrán descubrir, o quizás serán engañados por comportamientos o motivos sospechosos de otros personajes del libro, que los podrán desviar de la resolución correcta.

Encuentro que la historia está bien armada, es entretenida e interesante, uno puede estar junto a Rachel y lamentar su situación, el libro así lo permite. También cumple con el afán del lector de saber todos los detalles, ya que todos los hilos quedan atados. Quizás me hubiera gustado saber qué pasa un poco después, ¿habrá logrado Rachel rearmar su vida? ¿Qué pasó con los demás, se quedó con alguien? Ese tipo de cosas no se cuentan, pero se pueden deducir.

En resumen, no es un libro excelente, pero entretiene. Es distinto a las novelas policiales (de corte más clásico), que he leído. Es moderna y actual, con los problemas que atañen a las personas de hoy.

I am not sure if any of the characters in this story are truly likable, but the quick movement of the plot kept me interested enough to read this one all the way through to the end. I had a gut feeling early on of who the murderer really was and I guessed correctly. The only issue I had with the book was in the beginning when I had to constantly flip back and forth between the chapters to see if it was a flashback or present time. 5 stars for the writing that was done. Hawkins created an unsympathetic heroine that lets the reader into her head deeply enough that we care, instead of dismissing her like everyone else in the story. Rachel's blackouts were a perfect vehicle of suspense. Just a touch of foreshadowing...perfect.

3 stars for what seems like a bit of a cop out. The set-up for the book (sights seen from a train window), and the format of diary-like entries work with the train theme, but seem a bit too easy. Because ...more

A fantastic, gripping thriller. I would recommend this to anyone who likes thriller. Book is so engaging, captures all the character's perspective and feelings. Rachael, who is one of the character , is a messed up girl who want to do some thing that is meaningful .Rachael who commutes everyday by train, likes to observe from train and build her version of story. This is a fun book! The end is no great surprise, there aren't many turning points that you couldn't spot from at least a mile away (mind you, there are some `whoa` moments!), but the book really is fun. Good and unpretentious read, with a list of characters that - each and every one of them - have a secret layer(s) to them and some kind of double life/past story haunting them.
