It was nearly impossible to read The Girl on the Train without thinking of Gone Girl. A quick peek at the many reviews here indicate that this reader was not the only one with that exact experience. The Girl on the Train owes a lot to Gone Girl. It has a missing person who may or may not be dead. It has a truckload of secrets. It has multiple narrators, any of whom could be lying through her teeth at any given moment. It deals with poisonous relationships between people who are, for the most par ...more

From all the reviews I read before reading this book myself, I found extremely polarized opinions. People either are head over heels or utterly disappointed by this book. But since this was only 300 pages I thought why not try it. The hype about it being the "next Gone Girl" certainly did not help its case.

This is not the next anything. This is a new story about real yet messed up characters. The protagonist is Rachel Watson. Rachel is an alcoholic, divorced, childless, out o

I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone who like thrillers as well. I liked hearing the story from 3 characters and how everything came full circle. Yes, the characters are giant disasters with a lot of skeletons but isn't that the point with books like these. Very well written with lots of wonderful detail. Well done...not as crazy as books by Gillian Flynn but it's up there. ...more

The Girl on the Train had some good twists and surprises but was not anything that blew me away. Paula Hawkins is an author to watch and see how her next book is.
