I read this book years ago and I'd honestly forgotten just how amazing it was. By making it about animals Orwell manages to get to the heart of the problem of the Soviet Union (and I had a lot of fun matching the animal characters to their real life counterparts). But he also manages to illustrate the problem so many societies have. How rights are slowly chipped away one by one, how scapegoats are created to allow the government to get away with whatever they want, and how the lack of education ...more

Listened to the audiobook this time around. Yet another book I read in high school and didn’t appreciate or understand. While I still don’t love the book, I understand it better than I did 15 years ago. And, in the light of current USA politics, I appreciated it more. And now I am inspired to learn more about Russian History.

Just as relevant as when it was written. Maybe more so than in the proceeding quarter century. Maybe that shouldn’t be mentioned when the pigs and dogs are around.
