This is definitely not a subtle book. It's a nasty, cringey, awful look inside the head of an unapologetic monster, and I loved it.

Well this is obviously a pretty controversial book/topic/subject matter. A review from a stranger that I follow on Goodreads pulled me in and made me want to read it, and while it was really tough to get through, I'm glad I did.
It's actually shocking that Alissa Nutting managed to tell a story of this nature and make it not completely revolting. That's not to say there were not parts I was completely revolted by, because I was, but in general, I was mostly engrossed in the story and where it wa ...more

I read this because it was on a chart of "If you Read This, then Read...". Lolita it is NOT. The writing is quite good. Unlike Nabakov's protagonist, though, the reader has no sympathy or feelings of humanity at all for Celeste, as I'm sure the author intended. I write this review as yet another pretty blonde school teacher in the US is charged with committing lewd acts in her abuse of a student.

Maybe the least realistic novel I've ever read. Also hard to stomach. I really can't recommend this one to anyone.
