I really like the concept here, and the trick with narrative voice is a well-executed experiment. The confusion and increasingly scary world inhabited is dealt with with a very deft and effective touc. However, I think that having cracked this, the novel spends a little too much time wrapped up in here, and could have focused a little more on developing the various strands at play. Overall enjoyable and we'll worth a read.

This was an insanely clever novel. Two mysteries within one story from the point of view of a woman with alzheimer's...wow. I was enthralled by the story and the perspective. I felt just as confused as Maud and tried to put the story together right along with her. This was a great read.

This is harrowingly real in its depiction of old age and dementia. The horror of losing yourself and your mind ... The unraveling of memory and words - was frighteningly true. I've lived through two grandmothers who regressed with dementia and was touched by the empathy rendered by the author towards maud and Helen. The book starts slowly and then somehow grips you tightly and doesn't let go till the end. I thought I'd be reading something light and was stunned by the textures of this. Lovely bo
