Bel Canto...so hard to engage, but then about 80 pages in, the delicate diplomacy of the interpreter Gen won me over. Patchett’s insight for the role, position, taboos, stigmata, and invisibility of an interpreter was impressive. The ability she has for helping us understand the psychology behind the mindsets of terrorist and hostage as time progresses is at once artistic, beautiful, and tragic. I loved it. I did not entirely understand her plot choice in the epilogue. I would like to give her 4
