I'm surprised I didn't like this more, but maybe I was expecting too much with all the hype. I think Lisa Genova's second novel, 'Left Neglected' was better developed and written, which is great for her, because that shows she improved. 'Still Alice' read like a scientific paper, like Alice's thoughts and struggles are a researcher's observations studying Alzheimer's. Although this book is quite disturbing, I also found it a wonderful fountain of information on a disease that is so devastating. Well written, it draws you right into the family life, and made me laugh as well as cry, but also opened me eyes to new understanding not only of symptoms, but of feelings, of those troubled by this disease. Well-written and a page turner (despite the subject). I thought it might be overly-sentimental, but it wasn't. I seemed very real, from what I know, of an early-onset Alzheimer's experience. Glad I read it. ...more
