The Romance book club picked a cowboy theme for August and I knew I wanted to read Northranger, so I figured I better read the source material first. I'm not a huge Austen fan, in fact, I'm the first one to admit I don't belong in a Romance Book Club, but it is what it is.

I often feel characters in Austen can be a little insipid and this is so much the case here. But Austen's asides are delightful. I will always remember fondly her discussion of how characters in novels regaurd the novel in general. For that alone this was worth the read. But if you're looking for characters you will admire? This might not be the book for you. ...more

Not my favorite Austen...but a much needed diversion from the world right now. Some one said that Austen is like Linus's blanket. I found it comforting and safe to reenter her world. I can not recommend the audible edition that i listened to. The narrator was not very good and the sound quality and volume were inconsistent. ...more
