Set in Russia in the 1800s, this is a sad tale of Anna. She is a married aristocrat who takes a lover in a time when this was truly scandalous. Her husband finds out and is more concerned with his reputation than with what she is doing. This is considered a classic from Tolstoy and needs to be read to find out what happens in the woman-stifling world of the idle rich of that time period.

One of my favorite classic novels...I adore the relationship between Levin and Kitty, relate to the hardships of Dolly and Stiva, and feel horror and pity for Vronsky, Anna, and Karenin. If it only weren't for all those huge sections of outdated and tedious Russian political views, this would be the perfect book.
