This book was not what I expected. I usually don't read books that don't have a description on the back. (The paperback version of this book has only quotes from reviews.) But I picked it up anyway because I'd heard only good things about it. I'm glad I did. This book was at times raw and painful to read, but wholly spectacular in its descriptions of Afghanistan. I would definitely read it again. ...more

This book brought to light how truly horrifying war and conflict can be across generations in Afghanistan. It is a candid tale and the author does not shy away from telling stories of tragedy and of childhood innocence lost.
