What Members Thought

A magical trip to a different time and place is this book that begins in 1945 and suddenly dumps you in 1744. You make the trip through the eyes and thoughts of Claire Beauchamp Randall and during the trip you experience Scotland in the clan days before Bonny Prince Charlie returns to claim is father's throne from the British. You live in castles, abbeys, and crude huts. As a British nurse during World War II, you become a doctor ministering to illnesses, aches, pains, broken bones, and child de

3.5-4 stars. I struggled to connect during the first third of the book and thought it could have been shorter (there were just so many scenes that didn't seem to move the plot forward), but the writing was excellent, the love story was beautiful and there were some intense moments, especially towards the end. While overall I didn't love this book as much as I'd hoped, I'd recommend it and would like to continue the series.

As a non-native english speaker, this book was for me quite hard to comprehend at the beginning. However read accompanied with the excellent audiobook and the kindle wordwise feature, I enjoyed how precise and rich the vocabulary is and how constructive each character's personality are.

I SO badly wanted to like the whole book but I just couldn't.
Beginning was fun but the middle just went on, and on, and on. Enjoyed the ending.
I thought some of Jamie's actions were out of character. As I kept reading, it put an interesting input on a specific event, though.
Perhaps the book is better the second time around and/or an audiobook? I'll give it a whirl again sometime next year and see. ...more

I really liked this book. I am honestly surprised at how good it is! The writing was great and the story was quite intriguing. The love story was beautiful and not at all too cheesy (as I feared) and it wasn't too raunchy (which I also feared).
I did get a bit lost in the timeline as weeks would pass without much mention and I felt like SO much happened in this short amount of time. If not for these critiques, I would have given it 5 stars.
I am interested to see where the story goes!! ...more
