So I know I'm in a huge minority but I've given up on GoT. Not Martin's fault...it is a personal preference thing. The story seems more like a chronicle of events then a story moving to some determined destination. I'll continue my journey on HBO.

I will tell you all the truth: I do not like fantasy. Truly. I don't know if I'm still scarred by the summer I forced my way through all of Tolkien, but I do know that the barest mention of elves or knights or fair maidens will send me scurrying away. In addition, I'm not a fan of political intrigue, nor of really long books that start really long series. So why did I try this one?

A lot of fun, and a good, fast-moving story. BUT like Westerns an most science fiction, it's not necessarily well-written or mechanically interesting. So instead of calling it bad, I'll just chalk it up as pulpy thrills.
