This book had me gnawing my fingers, anxious to know what happens next. The story is just unfolding in front of you in all of its horrible glory and at some points you don't even want to look. Sometimes, I can see plot twists in novels coming a mile away, almost the exact shape of them. Not so here, and it's always enjoyable when you're suddenly prodded in a new direction without it being contrived. I knew that something would come up but not exactly what. . I give Gone Girl three stars out of concession to the writing. I waited to watch the movie after I read the book so I was surprised with the twist in the book. However, I hated both of the main characters, and the ending was anti-climactic after the rest of the drama of the book.
