I enjoyed this much more than my attempt at LOTR, probably because it was written for children and so not as tedious to me. One day I will read LOTR.

While it's a classic read, I didn't find myself too into it. I felt fairly annoyed with all of the main characters for the first half of the book. I wanted Bilbo to get over his fear of everything and the dwarves to stop being so dwarve-ish and Gandolf to stop being able to fix everything. I mean, I guess it's convenient. I'm also starting to find more and more that the fewer dynamic, independent, interesting female/non-male characters a book has, the less automatic interest I have in it. But ov
