Good, compelling story on the one hand, and easy to relate to, since I am also a wallflower, but too angsty, lots of awkward prose, and generally left me feeling incomplete--even though there is a conclusion and an epilogue. Although to some extent I could see the ending coming, it hit me like a M. Night Shyamalan plot twist, and I didn't like that.

Also, I spent a good half of the book wondering if Charlie was actually a girl because he cried so much. I know, I know, buying into gender stereotyp

I had seen the movie for this and always wanted to read the book. I have finally read the book and I have to say I'm a little bit surprised.

This book left me saddened and like it just needs to sink in a bit. Ultimately, I hope life for my students is nothing like life for the fictional Charlie or his friends. If it is, I hope they find something much more fulfilling and positive.

Great book. Written by 'Charlie' in letter format to an anonymous friend. Sex, drugs and sexual content is throughout. I am a big fan of challenged and banned books but would only recommend this to mature young adult audiences. There are some heavy discussion topics that may only be appropriate for the mature 16 year old. ...more

Charlie is an emotional, mature 15-year-old going through his first year of high school. In this book, he take us through all of his hardships that a lot of us have probably gone through at one point or another. I thought the book was a quick read and enjoyed it.
