Read this book and did not like it either time. I don't understand what people like about it AT ALL! It's just depressing and plain weird with no plot and just dumb. I don't care that everyone I know says I should love it and that it's a classic blah blah. I don't like it and I'll never try to read it again! There I said it.
P.S. I will admit I liked when he says " old sport" but that's about it. The characters were never fully developed in my opinion and I have to love or hate a character not h

I recently heard an interview on NPR about this book that included the author of Pachinko. It made me want to reread this. They pointed out how badly we really get to know any of the female characters while it still remains a classic. Fun to revisit and a lot parallels our society today.
