In 2012, I made the weird goal of finding a book that would make me cry because it was that emotionally moving. I read sad story after sad story after sad story; trying to find the book that would bring me to tears, but none of them succeeded in doing so (Stephen King's Joyland had me choked up, but there were no tears).

In many ways, this was an excellent book. In many ways it also really p****d me off. I study literature and you wouldn't catch me dead walking around quoting 'The lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock' or 'The Red Wheelbarrow'. It's pretentious, not to mention completely unrealistic for a 16 year old protagonist.
I couldn't help but cringe at Augustus constantly putting an unlit cigarette in his mouth, and telling people it was a 'metaphor'.

Sobbing here, as I finish it. I picked it up last year, but for some reason, just kind of skimmed it. It was the kindle version and today I read the print. I read most of my novels in digital format, but maybe this one needed me to feel it's weight in my hands. I read it again today, in a day and I feel changed. This is a 5 star book. My second in just this week. I will forever love Hazel and Augustus. One of the few sets of very young lovers I felt connected to. What an extraordinary book. I kn
