It’s a story of two teenagers falling in love and dying of cancer.

Not the sort of book I would get near unless someone had a gun to the head of my dog, and even then I’d consider the virtues of a new puppy.

But I’d heard it was good and I have a tendency to read the first paragraph, or at least the first sentence of any book. So as I passed by the display at the Barnes and Noble I picked it up and read the first sentence. A little long, but good — good enough to get me to read the first page. I

One shouldn't expect a happy ending when reading a book about two teenagers with a terminal illness falling in love. Regardless, I don't recommend reading this in public.

It's a coming of age tale, sped up by the potential of a short life. A look into the thoughts and feelings of people who feel the end near, thus focus on the things which are important to them. Oh my. I laughed and I cried, and I'm pretty sure I've never encountered a more honest and heartbreaking tale. These teens have not died; fiction has brought them to life, and they are real. An incredibly powerful story of hope and love and loss, and gain. Because it's all about what they gained, in the end - each other. ...more
